Sometimes you forget you’re awesome,
so this is your reminder.

Well, the months are shooting by and before we know it Spring will be upon us! Those brighter, longer, and hopefully warmer days will be welcome. They will also bring our June annual meeting date closer, which means that you will be receiving regular reminders of the need to find some new directors. We know there are individuals among you who would be awesome additions to our Board of Directors, and we encourage you to think seriously about how you could contribute to the Hobbs Seniors’ Club going forward. No matter how well you feel things are going, there is always room for new ideas and approaches. Feel free to speak to Ann or Rosie to learn more about the President’s and Membership Director’s responsibilities. Come on folks, your club needs you!
At the same time, we are very pleased to announce the appointment of Janette Brodeur to the position of VP Administration. This position recently became vacant, and Janette will complete the term which expires in June 2024, at which time she will have the opportunity to stand for another term. Welcome, Janette!
EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES
CPR/AED Training for Instructors and Conveners: Unfortunately, the course planned for February 3 had to be rescheduled, and will now take place on Friday, March 3.
Armchair Travels with Lynda: Also to be rescheduled! This event was to take place on February 22, but had to be cancelled at the last minute due to a respiratory outbreak at Promenade. Talk about “best laid plans” and all that! Since the downstairs hall at the Roy G. Hobbs Centre is not conducive to an optimal presentation, we shall try and reschedule the Armchair Travels at Promenade when it becomes safe to do so in the next couple of months. We did receive a good response to the presentation (28 people registered) and these names will be kept on file. Updated information will be provided to the membership in due course.
St. Patrick’s Day Potluck: Plans are in full swing for the party, and ticket sales are brisk. A reminder of the details:
Date: Saturday, March 18
Time: 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. (doors open at noon)
Cost: $2 for members, $5 guests/non-members
What to bring: Your contribution to the table
Listen and dance to the music of The Piano Man, Noel Dimar. Take a chance on the 50/50 draw. Maybe win a door prize. See you there!
Line Dancing Evening in April
Date: Saturday, April 15
Time: 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.
Cost: $10 for members, $12 for guests
What to bring: Your own snacks
All levels welcome!
Cancellations: All line dancing classes are cancelled on Wednesday, March 22 and Thursday, March 23.
Just a reminder that Marjorie Ashworth oversees club activities and conveners, so please address any requests, notice of changes, etc. to her (with copy to me if you wish).
There hasn’t really been a hard and fast policy about how we share this information, so the board is developing wording to be included in the club’s Policy and Procedures Manual. From now on, announcements of the passing of current or recent former members will be published in The Bulletin. As with the sending of cards, we shall be relying on information provided by you, even if it is weeks after the fact. That being said, we are now saddened to announce the passing of:
Betty Valois, on December 25, 2022. Betty had been a member for many years and was a dedicated cribbage player. Most members have already been made aware of Betty’s passing.
Sandra Choquette, on Friday, February 11 in Puerto Vallarta. She and her husband, Claude, enjoyed playing bid euchre at the club until they made their move to Mexico.
Claire Deschamps, on February 13. Claire was a long-time club member and an avid euchre player. Funeral will take place in the Spring – no date yet.
And, finally, a heartfelt “thank you” to members who answered the call to donate items to help in the settlement of Ukrainian refugees. Your generosity of spirit is wonderful. Items such as bedding, dishes, small appliances – really, almost anything useful – are still needed. Simply text Krystyna at 613-261-6972 and she will arrange to pick them up. Larger pieces of furniture and household items are also being accepted through the following website: https://h2hottawa.com/welcome.
